23  Some people think Food City can be a fun place to work. Some of the students in my class are going to be working there this semester. Most of the customers at Food City like to be greeted with a smile and “Hello!.” Most customers also like some help packing their groceries into bags. My job at Food City is going to be bagging groceries at the checkout line. Some workers really like working at Food City because they get to meet all kinds of nice new people! When I work at Food City, I will try and greet others with a smile and help them with their groceries.

24 10 Criteria that Define a Social Story  Shares social information with a person and has a reassuring quality  Has an introduction(to identify topics), a body(to add detail) and a conclusion to reinforce  Answers “wh” questions  Written from a first or third person perspective  Uses positive language  Always includes descriptive sentences  Describes more than directs  Has a format tailored to the abilities and interests of its intended audience  Includes individually tailored illustrations that enhance the text  Includes a title Taken from ©Vanderbilt University, TRIAD

25  Same concepts and goals as Social Stories  Written for older children, adolescents › Geared toward interests/abilities › More detailed › Age appropriate vocabulary  Written like a newspaper article  Focused more on motivation of current behaviors, not necessarily the behaviors themselves Taken from ©Vanderbilt University, TRIAD
