The Mystery of Unbelief John 12:37–50

The Answer

The Explanation

He had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men” Isaiah 53:2–3

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” Isaiah 6:1–3

The unwilling become unable to believe after a certain point

God’s hardening is never at odds with human responsibility

God never hardens innocent or morally neutral people

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. John 3:17–18

Verse 24 - Therefore, God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity. Verse 26 - For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Verse 28 - And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

God hardens unbelievers for the glory of God

Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And in this way all Israel will be saved. Romans 11:25–26

What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory. Romans 9:22–23

The Reason

Unbelievers love man’s glory more than God’s glory
