Where do we go?  More work on the middleware infrastructure.  The faculty and staff portal is a prototype. We need to work to make it real. Complete a preliminary design. Pilot some applications in discrete areas. Pilot one or two applications campus wide.  Develop a plan for moving forward with an integrated e-whatever model for Madison.

Unresolved issues  Is the portal technology we are using the right one, or do we need to change?  Do we need a campus-wide committee as we move forward?  How are we going to get to single sign-on?

Challenges for DoIT  We are planning to select and implement a new Campus-wide e-mail system Campus-wide calendaring system  By this summer … ouch.

Another tough one  Our LDAP directory service - and campus gate-keepers Conceptually folks agree In actuality, giving up data ownership is very hard for folks.

And others  Integration with the PeopleSoft Student Information System.  Integration with the proposed HR/Payroll system - but that one is downstream a bit.

Paying for this - a collaborative funding strategy  DoIT (central and system funds) MY UW Madison portal technolog Middleware Web based learning systems Streaming media (for instruction) E-Mail Calendaring

Departments/colleges fund...  Business process analysis  Design and development of specific applications that Support the campus (e.g. travel expense reports) That support a specific area (e.g., human subjects research training)
