4 Troux Metaverse: –Provides a state-of-the-art object repository, ETL, industry best practice metamodel framework, datamarts, analytics, workflows, collection, and policy management required by successful enterprise architecture teams. The aggregation of data enables visualization of people, processes, technologies, and their relationships throughout the enterprise, eliminating information silos.

5 Spotfire Traditional tools are failing decision makers: –Packaged applications are tailored but too rigid. –Reporting is widely distributed but irrelevant. –Statistics are powerful but too complex. –Between the above three are Analysis Gaps usually filled by spreadsheets but then have multiple versions of the truth. Better solution (“better than BI and smarter than spreadsheets”): –Relevance of applications. –Power of statistics: Most data-driven decisions can benefit from statistics, but need so both statistician can use and decision- makers can understand. –Distribution of reports. –Freedom of spreadsheets.

10 FEA Reference Models EAWG, September 22, 2010: –In 2005 the EAWG modified the Federal BRM by adding EPA-specific functions (http://intranet.epa.gov/architec/reference-model.html)Federal BRMhttp://intranet.epa.gov/architec/reference-model.html –Some uses of the BRM at EPA: Geospatial program proposes to use the Federal BRM to help identify National Geospatial Dataset assets and set government-wide investment priorities, and to use the EPA BRM to plan EPA enterprise IT services. OW finds the EPA BRM to be a valuable common reference model when cataloging and creating an inventory of IT assets. OAR has proposed two new EPA BRM functions, to help track EPA activities managing greenhouse gases. Discussion: Would you find it valuable to further modify EPA BRM? –My Comment: Need to do an EPA DRM to support real decision- making. Harmonizing data elements across systems are more important to reducing IT system costs than promoting collaboration within and across federal agencies by viewing programs and IT investments by function rather than organization.

11 Federal IT Dashboard http://federaldata.wik.is/Federal_IT_Dashboard#Results

12 Federal IT Dashboard EAWG (September 22, 2010) Slides: –Demonstrate how to find BRM mappings in the IT Dashboard. –What took a fair amount of time, can be done quickly with the Spotfire Re-architected Version of the Federal IT Dashboard (see next slide): Select Exhibit 53 as the data source. Use Filters to filter by “Line of Business Name” and other fields. For an Excel version, download in CSV format.

20 Welcome to ITGSS ITGSS consists of 3 modules; READ, Security, and Investment. READ (The Registry of EPA Applications and Databases) is an authoritative registry that uniquely identifies the EPA's diverse information resources including computer application systems, databases and models. The Security module automates the certification and accreditation processes, which will help ensure that critical system and security data managed by the EPA is ultimately secured, and that the systems that process that data are in compliance with Federal and Agency requirements for securing IT systems. The Investment module integrates CPIC Lite (Capital Planning and Investment Control), which assists in managing IT investments.

21 READ Reports and Exports READ Reports and Exports (see next slide) http://oaspub.epa.gov/portal/page/portal/ITGSS/ITGSS_MASTER/TAB1231595:READ_REPORTS_EXPORTS

22 READ Reports and Exports Standard Reports: The READ standard reports are formatted for viewing online, for printing to hardcopy, for generating PDF, or for exporting to spreadsheet or word processing applications. The standard reports offer a variety of report criteria for filtering report data.Standard Reports Online Graphical and Tabular Reports: The online reports provide a dashboard summary of READ information resources by organization. The online graphical and tabular reports are simple, summary reports that allow limited filtering and no printing or exports.Online Graphical and Tabular Reports
