2 1821 Texas became part of Mexico Antonio Lopez De Santa Anna suspended the newly written Mexican constitution, dismissed congress and made himself dictator Tension grew between Texas and Mexico and Texas began to rebel 1836 Santa Anna marched to San Antonio with his 4,000 men army to “crush the revolt”. Texans took their stand at the Alamo. 3 Primary Source #1 This is the 1 st page of Sam Houston’s copy of his official report of the Battle of San Jacinto. In this report Sam Houston informs the President of The Republic of Texas in detail what occurred at San Jacinto. “The conflict in the breastwork, lasted but a few moments; many of the troops encountered hand to hand, and not having the advantage of bayonets on our side, our riflemen used their pieces as war clubs, breaking many of them off at the breech. “

4 Primary Source #2 This is the map of the Battleground of San Jacinto and the positions of the Texan and Mexican armies. This is the land on which Texans, led by Sam Houston, attacked Santa Anna’s soldiers. Texans killed 630 of Santa Anna’s soldiers and captured Santa Anna.
