13 Later that year Sam Houston led the newly formed Texas Army against Santa Ana outside San Jacinto. To inspire his men he rode his horse through his troops shouting, “Remember the Alamo!” The battle was over in 18 minutes. The Mexican Army was defeated!

15 On December 29, 1845 Texas joined the United States as our 28 th state.
