1 Year 3 Academic Year 2013/14

2 Year 3 is an important year for your child’s growth and development Over the year our primary focus is developing our new Year 3 children into independent, passionate and confident junior school children with all the skills necessary to access their further learning Year 3 is a transitional year into the junior way of learning and includes some consolidation work

3 Autumn 1:Creation and Creativity Autumn 2:Thankfulness Spring 1:Justice and Courage Spring 2:Compassion and Forgiveness Summer 1:Peace Summer 2:Friendship These underpin everything we do at school so we can nurture and develop our Christian ethos.

4 Through ‘Active Learning’ we aim to ensure that the children are involved in their learning.  Children have input into planning  Clear Learning Intentions and Success Criteria (Remember to)  Good pace of learning  Rich Activities  Learning Partners  Self/Peer Assessment: children identify next steps  No hands up  Range of Questioning  Thinking time  5 Rs  Marking Policy (tickled pink and green for growth)  Learning through doing – memorable and enjoyable  English and Maths targets, we will start with the targets from last year’s report

5  Begin to develop the new curriculum  Mental maths  Spelling  Computing  PSHCE - develop the quality of provision  Homework – implement new homework policy School Priorities

6 Parent/Carer consultation meetings on 20 th /21 st November - 10 minute appointment - work available in hall - how your child has settled in their new class -summary of strengths and achievements - current level and rate of progress (expected/better than etc) - targets / have they achieved current and set new - target card given out showing levels - work habits - any other comments Learning Review Meetings – 21 st March - parents/carers attend with their child - child as active participant (age appropriate) - children complete a Learning Review in advance - new targets set in partnership with child and parent - learning at home set for the day – writing competition Written Report – July - summarises achievements/learning habits throughout the year - sets targets for the beginning of the following academic year - gives end of year National Curriculum levels in Maths and English (Reading and Writing) (Science in 2 and 6)

8 Please remember... Punctuality – Children should be in class by 8:45am. Fruit break needed at playtime Every child needs a full water bottle each day Healthy lunch box Children collected promptly at 3:15pm – please do not allow children to play on the climbing frame after school. Named PE and swimming kits

9 How to Help at Home Take an interest in their homework Practise times tables regularly Reading daily with children Learning spelling patterns

10 How to Help the School In class……. Listening to readers at the beginning or end of the day Swimming volunteers Any special areas of expertise ECSA meetings and events Footpath patrol Lunchtime help in the dining room Financial assistance –school fund and voluntary contributions Returning forms e.t.c. on time

12 Home School Agreement What is the Home-School Agreement? An agreement drawn up with parents, LA, Governors and Diocese Why do we have a Home School Agreement? We want to work in partnership with parents. It is a legal requirement of all schools. Why are we asking parents to sign it? So the school can work with parents and children. An opportunity to discuss with your child, at the start of the school year about expectations, uniform, homework, behaviour
