2. Why are we here? Comedian Don Novello once did a bit about the "Five Minute University." His premise was that we don't remember more than about five minutes' worth of knowledge from our college education, so why not go to college for just five minutes?

4. Why are we here? We want far more than that. We want to promote deep, insightful learning that endures. Our conceptual framework calls this life long learning.

5. Why are we here? COE needs your help to provide us with valuable suggestions for ways to enhance curricula, pedagogies, and assessments that promote deep learning.

6. Why are we here? Two of the exciting pedagogical developments of the last few years has been the growth of the learning communities and service learning. We need your help in involving our teacher candidates in these processes.

Last NCATE visit – November 2003 “The unit, its school partners and other members of the professional community do not systematically design, deliver, and evaluate field experiences and clinical practice or jointly determine student teacher/internship placements.” “The unit does not have a systematic process to ensure that candidates at the initial and advanced levels are placed in diverse setting throughout the field experience and clinical practice.”

Program Revisions Beginning with the Summer 2005 graduates, all secondary education majors will have the same major course work as their College of Arts and Sciences counterparts Example: Mathematics majors require 51 hours of mathematics – Mathematics Education majors will take identical coursework in mathematics and have a major in mathematics.
