This is where the hole is and where I helped out at.

The poverty level is at 31 percent in urban areas 45 percent in rural areas Those in extreme poverty rose 13 percent last year

They have been trying to find a way to keep the kids down there out of trouble for many years and have finally done so They brought baseball to the Dominican in a totally new way. No baseball, no gloves, just a cap, a broom stick and 3 bases The number of kids getting in trouble has gone down dramatically

Cap ball is a new baseball game that is played in the Dominican Republic. The game is played on a miniature baseball field. The field has a first base, second base & a home plate. Bats are replaced with broom sticks and the balls are replaced with caps from 5 gallon water jugs. The count is 3 strikes and 6 balls. All the other rules are the same.

Go ministries is for short term mission trips which helps with sports outreach, medical, construction and others. GO Ministries has been around since 1996 in Illinois & relocated its headquarters to Louisville, Kentucky in 1999. They have groups coming in every week. They arrive on Tuesday night & they leave the next Tuesday morning. That night the next group flies in.

The hole got its name from what it is. The hole is an old abanded land fill. There is a creek running through the hole and that is where they put there trash and that where they bath. This area is the poorest place in the Dominican Republic. The area is not government ran any more. The people just come and build where ever they want and. whenever they want There use to be a house on that cliff but it fell off from all the rain they got last year.

The first way is to donate money. The second way is to get involved. Sponsor a child. The third way is to go make a difference. Go to the Dominican Republic. Change someone's life, get other people to get involved. Spread the word to make a difference.

You are able to sponsor a kid through Go Ministries. When you sponsor a kid its 30 dollars a month. That pays for an education, school books, school supplies, a Christmas & birthday present If you go on a mission trip near where your sponsored child lives you will have the opportunity to visit them

What I did to help… I went to the Dominican Republic. Our group ran a basketball camp. What I got to see while I was there at the basketball camp was so amazing. Just seeing them in their place and where they go everyday to hang out. They are so excited when our cars show up at the basketball courts because they know its people that came to help them and show them how to really play basketball. There were friends and parent there watching and supporting their kids during the games. They were so interested in the advise we told them. Unlike the way we are - we don’t like help when someone wants to give it to us like when I went to show a kid how to get a better shot they listen to us. But when someone wants to help us we don’t listen.

On the streets we got to hang out with the neighborhood people and make friends with some of them. We played cap ball with them and talked to them “Skim ice” The best popsicle you'll ever have Cap ball on the streets when the neighborhood Everybody hanging out
