THE ROLE OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING

Educational Technology Is concerned with the systematic use of modern methods and technologies in teaching and learning. Refers to hardware and software, including televisions, radio, electronic classroom, instructional devices, still and motion projectors, computer-assisted or managed instructional equipment and materials, communications equipment for educational application and other equipment and materials necessary to asses the learning process.

FOUR PHASES OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

IDENTIFICATION OF OBJECTIVES The goals, purposes or objectives to be accomplished serve as guide to the type or nature of learning activities as well as the methodologies to be used.

DESIGN OF LEARNING EXPERIENCES  There are two things to consider in designing learning experiences: 1. Sequences and strategies 2. Modes and media

EVALUATION OF HOW EFFECTIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCES IN ACHIEVING THE OBJECTIVES  Accurate evaluation of how effective the learning experiences have been depends on the construction and use of evaluative devices that fit the stated objectives.

Examples of evaluative methods: Examples of evaluative methods: 1. Observation devices 2. Self-report instruments: inventories, questionnaires and ranking devices 3. Text items: essay and objective types

IMPROVEMENT OF THE LEARNING EXPERIENCES SO AS TO BETTER ACHIEVE THE OBJECTIVES PPPPresupposes partial/complete non- attainment of objectives designed to be accomplished with a set of learning experiences in which case there is a need to modify the whole system or only certain elements of it.

APPROACHES TOWARD MEDIA CLASSIFICATIONS Literacy- some media such as books, Chalkboards, teaching machines require the ability to manipulate and understand symbols (literacy) of the user. Audio and Visual-makes use of one or a combination of two sense modalities-seeing and hearing.

Static and Dynamic- examples of static media: filmstrips, books, Chalkboards, language lab. or slides. Dynamic when they show motion: television and motion pictures, audio recordings.

Solo vs. group use- books or teaching machines can be teaching machines used solo while projected media, radio and recordings needs a small group to perform/use such.
