Well, taking climate as a criterion , we can divide the world into three main Heat Zones namely-

Why do we have these different Heat Zones ?

4. SHAPE OF THE EARTH
The Earth is spherical in shape hence the Sun’s rays received is different in different parts of the Earth.
Being spherical the maximum radiation is received at the centre of the Earth.

5. DISTANCE TRAVELLED BY THE SUN’S RAYS
Since the Earth bulges at the centre the distance travelled by the sun’s rays is minimum at the centre and is the maximum at the poles.

6. AREA COVERED BY THE SUN’S RAYS
At the centre the area heated is less compared to the poles , where the rays spread over a wide area. Hence the heat is more at the equator than at the poles.

7. Have you ever wondered what would happen if the temperature on the Earth goes on increasing?

8. Well, the ice caps in the Polar Region is slowly diminishing as the temperature of the Earth is going up due to global warming..

They are seen between the major latitudes

10. The area between the Equator and the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern Hemisphere and the area between the Equator and the Tropic of Capricorn in the Southern Hemisphere is called the TORRID ZONE or the TROPICAL ZONE.

11. The area between the Tropic of Cancer and the Arctic Circle in the Northern Hemisphere and the Tropic of Capricorn and the Antarctic Circle in the Southern Hemisphere is called the NORTH TEMPERATE ZONE and the SOUTH TEMPERATE ZONE respectively.

12. The area between the Arctic Circle and the North Pole in the Northern Hemisphere is called the NORTH FRIGID ZONE and the area between the Antarctic Circle and the South Pole in the Southern Hemisphere is called the SOUTH FRIGID ZONE.
