Constructing Architect

Ventilation – domestic buildings  Each habitable room as well as the dwelling as a whole must have a fresh air supply of no less than 0.35 l/s/m 2.  Indoor air must be removed by extractors from kitchens, bathrooms, lavatories, utility rooms etc.  In dwellings in multi-storey buildings, a minimum flow of 20 l/s must be extracted from kitchens, and a minimum flow of 15 l/s from bathrooms and lavatories.

Ventilation – domestic buildings  An extractor hood with mechanical extraction must be installed above the cooker in all dwellings in blocks of flats and single-family houses.  Fresh air must be supplied to the habitable rooms either through fresh air vents, automatically controlled windows or by mechanical, forced air supply.

Ventilation – domestic buildings The functional requirements for ventilation of rooms of a normal height are satisfied when the rooms are ventilated as follows:

Area of fresh air vent in habitable rooms At least 60 cm 2 for up to 25 m 2 floor area with natural ventilation At least 30 cm 2 for up to 25 m 2 floor area for mechanical extraction. In room larger than 25 m 2, the requirement is deemed to have been met if the opening area: In the case of natural ventilation is augmented by 2,4 cm 2 pr m 2 floor area in excess of 25 m 2

Area of fresh air vent in habitable rooms Example : Living room 40 cm 2 40 x 2,4 = 96 cm 2 opening Or 60 cm 2 + (40-25) x 2,4 cm 2 = 96 cm 2 opening
