He was one of the most important gods in Egypt, if not the most important. The Egyptians believed that Ra was swallowed every night by the sky goddess Nut, but was reborn every morning which explained day and night. The Egyptians had a god or goddess for everything they couldn’t explain like day or night, so they had a god or goddess to blame the good or bad. There were so many gods of Egypt Mythology. Ra emerged from the waters of the Nun as a benben stone( sort of like a pillar)

The Sun God Ra traveled across the sky during the day and through the underworld at night.

Bes was the protector of women, children, god of war, patron of childbirth. He was a dwarf god and a deity. Bes drove away the evil spirits that caused mischief and who caused accidents. He was very popular among the Egyptians because he protected women and children above all

They went into the temples and gave offerings like food and perfumes, but fish was considered as an unacceptable offering. The Ancient Egyptians had as many as 2,000 gods! The Egyptians devoted a lot of time and wealth to prepare for the afterlife. The high priests was to care for the gods or goddesses and attend to their needs.

Worship included giving gifts to the gods and goddesses and more. Egypt was a land full of temples, each one for worshiping and praising them! Only the highest level priests and the king himself were allowed to approach the sanctuary which held the god’s sacred shrine. Worship was very important for honoring the gods and goddesses, and keeping them “happy” The worship was very embedded into their daily lives.

The Egyptians had many different religious festivals which meant a lot of parties! There was a fiesta called The Festival of Beautiful Meeting. It was a romantic type of commemoration! There was also a festival called the Sed Festival. which celebrated the god Horus and Hathor’s marriage! The Opet Festival was like the Sed Festival, but they honored the gods of Kurnak that renewed the pharaoh’s powers
