Dec. 19, 2006TELL1 commissioning for Calorimeters 4 ECS for TELL1 - PVSS panels ■ ECS access with test bench: Actually we use the Lausanne Console_TELL1 (C code) ■ Common registers : Synclink We would like to use the PVSS panels developed by Lausanne. ■ User registers and RAM : PP-FPGA Registers : CTRL, firmware version, error counter… RAM : one threshold per PS/SPD channel (a database is necessary) ■ PVSS panels for calorimeters commissioning We need to learn PVSS tools We would like to do as simple as possible and not an “Usine à gaz”

Dec. 19, 2006TELL1 commissioning for Calorimeters 5 Firmware needed ■ PP FPGA firmware One user version for ECAL/HCAL One user version for PS/SPD The ECS registers are the same for the 2 types of calorimeters ■ Synclink firmware We will use the common version (actually version 1.8) It reads the incoming data from 4 PP-FPGA 4 PP-FPGA active for PS/SPD: OK 2 PP-FPGA active for ECAL/HCAL: it will generate an error bank We have to see with Guido if it is possible to disable PP-FPGA

Dec. 19, 2006TELL1 commissioning for Calorimeters 6 Availability and delivery ■ Reminder : ECAL (26 TELL1), HCAL (8 TELL1), PS/SPD (8 TELL1) : Total = 42 TELL1 ■ Production (Lausanne) Delivered end November, followed by testing : ~3 months for 300 modules Finished end February (if no major problems) ■ Installation “Clé en main” (Online group) The last modules will be installed by mid March We have no need to be served at first, we can wait March The installation is centralized : boards will be installed, cabled and tested Tests : ECS, functions (clock, GBE …), system OK for TFC and DAQ The interfaces with the detectors are not tested ■ TELL1 crates Actually : 1 in point 8 rack (without power supply), 2 in CRACKS

Dec. 19, 2006TELL1 commissioning for Calorimeters 7 Cabling ■ CROC-patch panels It is possible that these cables will be installed in March ■ Patch panels – counting house (long distance cables) These cables are here, non connected and tested (done mid January) ■ Counting house – TELL1 The cables are ordered and paid ! They will be installed in March by our team

Dec. 19, 2006TELL1 commissioning for Calorimeters 8 Commissioning in building 156 and at point 8 ■ Commissioning in building 156 We are focused on our test bench (complete setup at LAPP) Test in building 156 could be done but the priority is our test at LAPP Extensive tests shall be done at LAPP before common tests ■ Commissioning at point 8 Once the centralized installation is done we will download our firmware Calo TELL1 should be ready for global DAQ tests in March We have to test the interface with detectors (with CROCs)

Dec. 19, 2006TELL1 commissioning for Calorimeters 9 Conclusion ■ TELL1 status : Extensive tests with Synclink have to be done with our test bench ■ ECS PVSS panels : Simple PVSS panels for our user registers will be developed ■ Firmware : PP-FPGA (User version), Synclink FPGA (common version) ■ Production (Lausanne) : Finished end February if there is no major problem ■ Installation (Online group) : Centralized and tested by mid March ■ Cabling : CROC-PP (March), PP-counting house ( ), Counting house-TELL1 (March) ■ Commissioning at point 8 : Calo TELL1 should be ready for global DAQ tests in March
