2. What do students learn in GCSE History? The new GCSE History syllabus is still in draft form and is waiting to approved by Ofqual. However, we intend to follow the Edexcel GCSE History course as set out below: Paper 1 Thematic Study (20%) Crime and Punishment through Time: 1000AD-present day Historic Environment (10%) Whitechapel: Crime and Policing 1870-1900 Paper 2 A British Depth Study (20%) Early Elizabethan England: 1558-88 A Period Study (20%) Superpower Relations and the Cold War: 1941-91 Paper 3 A World Depth Study (30%) Weimar and Nazi Germany 1918-39

Year 9 Introduction to History: Skills Unit Project of choice – extended essay Crime and Punishment through time: 1000-present day Whitechapel: Crime and Policing 1870-1900 Year 10 Early Elizabethan England: 1558-1588 Weimar and Nazi Germany 1919-1939 Year 11 Superpower relations and the Cold War: 1941-91 Revision

4. What skills do you need at GCSE History? Key history skills Historical enquiry and investigation Using historical evidence and source analysis Good level of literacy (reading and writing) Writing structured and extended answers Key historical concepts Cause and consequence – what causes major historical events? Change and continuity – how have things changed or stayed the same? Significance – why are some historical events more significant than others? Interpretations – why do people have different views of the same event?

5. Expectations and homework Arriving on time with Golden 6 and exercise book Completion of homework (1 hour per week) Attendance at homework clinic if not completed (or if support is needed) Attendance at revision sessions/seeking help if necessary Working to the best of your ability!

Support Humanities homework clinics run on Tuesday and Friday Students are welcome to come back after school otherwise Marking, written and verbal feedback R2F – Student response to feedback is a big focus at PCS Access to materials e.g. textbooks, GCSE Pod Revision sessions in Year 11 (mock and final exam) Your input! Support with homework, parents’ evening, reading, news, having a critical eye…
