CSE Senior Design I Superior Designs, Inc. Summer 2014 Approved Projects (for prototype delivery December 2014) Instructor: Mike O’Dell

1 Virtual Drivers’ Training System  Develop a system that will provide drivers’ training using a VR headset (a driving “game”).  Integrate realism by using devices with a “cockpit” including steering wheel, accelerator, brake pedal, turn indicators, etc.  Provide a mechanism to score the student on various driving scenarios.  Sponsor: TBD

1 Home Irrigation Control System  Develop a system for homeowners to use for watering gardens/lawns.  Integrate sensors with home irrigation system to determine moisture content in soil and adjust watering based on characteristics and water needs of plantings, etc.  Integrate with wireless smartphone app to allow remote configuration and modification of settings, etc.  Sponsor: TBD (Neil Sperry??)

1 Home Management System  Develop a sensor-/RFID-based system for managing home devices.  Programmable and/or self-learning system to activate or change settings on specified household devices based on presence of individuals in the household.  Could change thermostats, lock/unlock doors, turn lights or ceiling fans on/off, etc.  Sponsor: TBD

1 Virtual Reality Magic Bus  Develop a “live” tour of something from history, areas inside the human body, the solar system, undersea environs, etc.  Users would be immersed in VR world scenario, using Oculus Rift or other VR device, on a Magic Tour Bus.  “Tourist” could “touch” or point to certain areas/objects of interest to have virtual “tour guide” appear and provide interesting details.  Sponsor: (Paul Sassaman)

1 Smart Mirror  Develop a system which wirelessly connects a mirror/display to a user's smartphone and displays information for the day.  Interacts with apps such as weather, to do list, calendar, etc. when user is present and displays information in non-obtrusive manner.  User configurable via smartphone app.  Could integrate touch technology if economically feasible.  Sponsor: (Paul Sassaman)

1 Virtual Reality Training System  Develop a system similar to Magic Bus described previously, but used for corporate training or indoctrination.  Sponsor: Local company which could benefit from such a system.

1 Autonomous Material Delivery System  Develop an autonomous delivery system using quad rotor or similar lightweight UAV.  System would be able to deliver printed or other light weight materials to multiple specified locations within, say, a building or campus.  Use a small form factor UAV such as the quad rotor with integrated GPS and camera.  Sponsor: Local company or UTA department who would benefit from such a system. Or, possibly, CSE Heracleia lab (Dr. Becker?)

1 Physical Rehabilitation System  Develop a physical rehab system using a VR headset  Use a 3D camera (possibly Kinect) to detect and analyze movements of a patient in response to the VR environment.  Provide feedback/coaching to improve the exercise.  Provide evaluation/comments to caregiver via web app on patients’ performance.  Sponsor: CSE Heracleia lab (Dr. Becker?)
