Warm Up: 1. Use the word constant in a sentence, as you would use it in science. 2. Use the word “constantly” in a sentence as you would use in every day life.

Right Side: Vector Notes Objective: I can use a vector to tell the direction and magnitude of a force.

A force can be shown with a vector. A vector is a line with an arrow and a dot. The dot shows where the force begins. The length of the arrow shows the amount (magnitude) of force. The arrows show the direction of the force. A small force to the left. A large force to the right.

Balanced and Unbalanced Forces Right side Net force- is the combination of all the forces acting on an object Add the arrows if they go in the same direction Subtract the arrows if they go in the opposite direction

-Balanced Forces – The net force is zero – They DO NOT cause a change in motion of an object – Evidence: Object may be at rest (not moving) or moving at a constant velocity. Unbalanced Forces – The net force does NOT equal zero – They DO cause an object’s motion to change. » Ex of Evidence : » A. Cause a change in speed and or direction B. Cause a not moving object to start moving C. Cause a moving object to stop moving

Left side: Illustrated Force Notes 2 These forces are balanced because they are not changing motion. These forces are unbalanced because _______ is causing _______ to move ____________. (Draw a picture showing balanced forces with force arrows) (Draw a picture showing unbalanced forces with force arrows)
