3 The purpose of the Government I lead is to create a more successful country, with opportunities for all of Scotland to flourish, through increasing sustainable economic growth. Alex Salmond MSP, First Minister

4 Priorities An approach to health and well-being that ensures all Scots enjoy the right level of physical and mental health to give them the opportunity to maximise their potential (Strategic Priority in GES) Help people to sustain and improve their health, especially in disadvantaged communities, ensuring better, local and faster access to health care (Healthier Objective/Better Health Better Care) “No health without mental health”

5 Focus of Activity Promote wellbeing Reduce the likelihood of common mental health problems Support for those experiencing mental health problems Improve the outcomes and quality of life for those with mental illness

6 Targets and Indicators NHS Targets: –Reduce suicide –Reduce readmissions –Stop increase in anti-depressant prescribing –Increase identification of dementia –Faster access to specialist CAMHS Single Outcome Agreements National Indicator 15 – Improve Scotland’s wellbeing by 2011

7 TAMFS Priorities Builds on the success of the National Programme Six priorities –Early Years, Children and young people –Communities –Later life –Employment and Working Life –Reducing suicide, self harm and mental health problems –Improving the quality of life Identifies 22 national commitments

8 Action for Change Define mental health improvement Focus on outcomes – single outcome agreements Implementation of the evidence base Community engagement Use of the web and new media approaches

9 Local Delivery? identify and understand local population needs agree local actions to address key determinants make explicit linkages to relevant SOAs and NHS targets and commitments increase understanding and awareness in the local population develop local mechanism for measuring and monitoring progress and outcomes (So what?)
