7 Mobilizing Volunteers The Process –Check website www.worldhope.org for information –Team Leader registers group on website link –Recruit volunteers (age 18 or older) –Disaster Relief Coordinator contacts the Team Leader –Check website for supply list –Complete Volunteer Forms (in appendix of this manual)

8 Questions So Far? What initiative should you (or your church) take in order to volunteer to serve in the aftermath of a disaster? What information is available through the World Hope International website?

9 What are the Guidelines for Volunteers ? Think ahead - prepare for time off from work. Review the checklist (appendix page xxi). Keep your insurance info available. Organize important contact information. Contact WHI Disaster Relief Office (DRO) to volunteer.

10 Stop and Evaluate 1.Do you have a clear understanding of your own role in readying yourself for rapid mobilization? 2. Name 5 things you can do to prepare to serve. See “Things to Do, Take, and Review” checklist. 3. Will you commit to gathering all necessary supplies and information in the weeks following your training?

11 Relating to the Disaster Relief Office Check the WHI website WHI partners with local churches in disaster area –Site manager named –Teams assigned –Supplies shipped –Disaster Relief Coordinator (DRC) maintains contact with staging site

12 Appeal for teams, funds, and supplies announced on WHI website Churches/organizations put together teams –Contact DRO –Register on website Teams assigned dates for service –Dates confirmed by DRC –Stay limited to 8-10 days –Site Manager notified of team’s arrival –Team to honor agreed upon dates Volunteer forms sent: –Code of conduct –Medical Information Sheet

Works with the staging site church Establishes relationships with officials in staging area Involves church leadership at staging area Encourages the body of believers Manages distribution of supplies Organizes the work Manages teams Keeps records Works on an exit strategy with the DRO Encourages the local church to continue ministering to the community once WHI departs
