BACKGROUND During the 20s, Japan became more and more Democratic. When the Great Depression hit, the Japanese blamed the government. Military leaders ended up taking control

JAPAN UNDER MILITARIST CONTROL Government was controlled by Military Believed in extreme Nationalism Kept Emperor Hirohito as the leader Made him the symbol of power in Japan Fix Japan’s economic issues by expanding the empire!

JAPAN INVADES MANCHURIA Manchuria, China was rich in iron & coal and it also provided room for Japan’s rising population. In 1931 Japan invades

TENSIONS WITH THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS The invasion of Manchuria, was a direct challenge to the League of Nations. *REMEMBER* AMERICA’S CONGRESS DENIED THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS AND NEVER JOINED! Japan withdrew from the League of Nations in 1933
