2 Definition of democracy : Democracy is a word derived from two Latin words ‘Demos’ means people while ‘kartos’ mean rule. The concept of democracy dates back as far as the early Greek and Roman era. According to Aristotle democracy is a rule of ignorant people. The definition of democracy according to Abraham Lincoln is ‘ government off the people, by the people for the people’ The rise of modern democracy was seen after the French revolution and Industrial Revolution of 18 th and 19 th century. Modern Democracy can be classified into three categories; 1. Pure 2. Seudo 3. Artificial

3 Types of Democracy : There are 3 categories of democracy: 1. Social Democracy, which is related to equality of human beings from the social prospects. 2. Economic Democracy, which is related to basic necessities of life and economic equality. It can be further divided into capitalism and communism. 3. Political Democracy, this type relates to the rights of the citizens in relation to government and state.

4 Kinds of Democracy : There are two kinds of democracy : 1. Direct democracy, where people directly participate in the decision making the main concepts are referendum initiative and recall. 2. Indirect Democracy, the modern concept where people elect their representatives who take decisions on their behalf. The main concepts is elections.

5 Conditions Necessary for Democracy : Education, a reasonable and basic education is necessary for all the citizens. Political conciseness, all citizens should have civic sense regarding their rights and duties. Economic Stability, reasonable standard of living for all the citizens Leadership, the rulers should be Competent, capable and sincere.

6 Conclusion : Democracy is like a shiny crystal ball having the ideals of equality i.e one man one vote and decision making which touchth all should be decided by all. If not handled properly it can just be a number game where minority becomes a majority.
