2 Have you had any experience with cancer?

3 Public is often presented with statistics that may or may not be meaningful.

4 3 out of 5 people in this class will have children

5 3 out of 10 kids in the class will be involved in an alcohol related accident

6 What percentage of people will be diagnosed with cancer in their life time? 1 in 3 for women and 1 in 2 for men. Out of those diagnosed, ¾ will die of cancer. (Or ¼ will be cured).

7 Is there any way to know who will develop cancer and when? There is no way to know for sure, but, in general old people, people who smoke, and people exposed to excessive radiation develop cancer more often than others.

8 You learned about who develops cancer, when, and why, by assuming the identities of fictitious people who develop cancer and building a profile of some of the key events in these people's lives.

9 If you were absent in class this is what was discovered: Those with family history tended to get cancer. Those with risky life styles tended to get cancer The older people got the more likely it was they got cancer Cancer developed in perfectly normal people Cancer develops in nearly any part of the body
