Lesson 5.1 EbD Project Specifications 1 ® ®

Essential Question: ® What are the specification requirements for this project and what is the prioritization of the tasks.

Lesson 5.1 Project Specifications Overview 3. Applying STEM standards to Service- Learning Projects 2. Video- The Secret of Trees 1.Class Basics Notebook Line of Learning NGSS and Common Core Standards 4. Brainstorming: Application of Skills sets ® 5. Reflection

Prepare your notebook Table of contents ®

Standards Statement ® Students will be using speaking and listening skills along with understanding of the engineering design process to be able to determine tasks and components of each of the different project options. Standards: NGSS HS. Engineering Design HS-ETS1-1. HS-ETS1-2, HS-ETS1-3 ETS1.b: CC ELA/Literacy – SL.11-12.1d, SL.11-12.3-

Engaging Prior Knowledge ® Think about all of the information that you have compiled about your potential project and your community.  What are the steps that you know you will have to take to complete this project?

What is needed to Complete the Project? ® Think about the following items related to your project.  Physical- dimensions of the space to be used.  Functional- How does the prototype work? Environmental- issues that need to be addressed either in the functionality of the project or in the production?  Economic- economic impact on the stakeholders or the community? This would also include any issues that were raised during your SWOT decision making activity.  Legal- Are there any potential legal issues with the implementation of the project ?  Ergonomics- Have you looked into the functionality of the prototype to make sure that it meets the needs of the stakeholders and meets their physical needs?

® Application of Flow Chart and SWOT to Specifications Discussion:  Use the information from your flow chart and your SWOT decision matrix to create a list of specifications.

® Planning  How are you going to be proactive with your planning to integrate the specifications for the project into your plan?  What are potential threats to the success of your project and how are you going to minimize those threats?

® Share out  Discuss the specifications for your project with the class.  Get feedback that will help you further refine your specifications.

Questions?? ® ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Reflection Have you..  evaluated the information that has been gathered and created a list of specifications and requirements for the project?  determine any more information that is needed for the project?  used speaking and listening skills to be able to discuss the specifications for the projects and how they related to the 6 basic elements of the project? ®
