2 How the Standards have changed… 6 th grade : Students write narrative, expository, persuasive, and descriptive texts of at least 500 to 700 words. 2.3 Write research reports: a. Pose relevant questions with a scope narrow enough to be thoroughly covered. b. Support the main idea or ideas with facts, details, examples, and explanations from multiple authoritative sources (e.g., speakers, periodicals, online information searches). c. Include a bibliography.

3 How the Standards have changed… 7 th grade : Students write narrative, expository, persuasive, and descriptive texts of at least 500 to 700 words. 2.3 Write research reports: a. Pose relevant and tightly drawn questions about the topic. b. Convey clear and accurate perspectives on the subject. c. Include evidence compiled through the formal research process (e.g., use of a card catalog, Reader’s Guide to Periodical Literature, a computer catalog, magazines, newspapers, dictionaries). d. Document reference sources by means of footnotes and a bibliography.

4 How the Standards have changed… 8 th grade : Students write narrative, expository, persuasive, and descriptive texts of at least 500 to 700 words. 2.3 Write research reports: a. Define a thesis. b. Record important ideas, concepts, and direct quotations from significant information sources and paraphrase and summarize all perspectives on the topic, as appropriate. c. Use a variety of primary and secondary sources and distinguish the nature and value of each. d. Organize and display information on charts, maps, and graphs.

10 Project Components Notes – a packet provided by Ms. Wright Poster ~ Model ~ Oral Presentation ~ Movie – Only 1 of the above PowerPoint Rough & Final Draft of written report Lab behavior

11 Poster Must include 6 Subtopics – Ex: Your research topic = Inner Planets 1 subtopic would be Mercury 1 subtopic would be Venus Etc. At least 5 facts per subtopic – 1 point for fact – 1 point for quality of fact

12 Poster 1 visual per subtopic – 4 points per visual – Can be hand drawn or printed from computer Title – 6 points Overall neatness = 10 points Size: – Cannot be larger than 30”x20” – Cannot be smaller than 24” x 18”

13 Oral Report Must schedule by October 3 rd – No one can come on Oct 5 th and then say they want to do an oral report Can use PowerPoint has a visual aid Must be 5-8 minutes 50 points = content delivered 50 points = delivery style

14 Model Must represent one portion of your research project Must include 10 facts for your model 50 points = facts 45 points = quality & accuracy of visual representation of topic 5 points = title

15 Movie Must be at least 5 minutes Must present facts on 6 subtopics 60 points = Facts presented – 10 points per subtopic At minimum 5 facts per subtopic 40 points = quality of presentation

16 Rough Draft – Only written in class & from your notes Final Draft – Only written at EIS PowerPoint presentation – At least 13 slides 1 title slide At least 2 slides per subtopic Only 2-3 facts per slide & should have a visual Other Project Components
