3 B.E Computer Seminar 1.) Introduction 1.) Introduction 1.1 What is I-mode ?  A brand & a service launched by NTT DoComo, Japan for Wireless internet connection at the touch of a button on a cell phone.  Very light weight I-mode phone handset with Cellular phone and internet facility  Anytime / Anywhere Communication at “Reasonable Cost”.  Internet service using PDC-P ( Per Digital Cellular – Packet ).  Uses subset of HTML 3.0 for content description.  “Always On” internet connection based on Packet data transmission tech.

4 B.E Computer Seminar B.E Computer Seminar 1.2 Getting into I-mode  Most popular in Japan with 28 million users subscribed to it & is still growing at the rate of 45,000 subscribers per day.  Access to more than 66,000 internet sites as well as specialized services like email, e- banking, e-shopping etc.  Access is not limited only to I-mode & I- mode compatible through the internet but also a lease-line circuit access for added security.

5 B.E Computer Seminar 1.3 Content Description  Compact HTML ( cHTML ) is used in I-mode.  A competing wireless Protocol to WML that is used in WAP.  Optimized form of HTML with some special tags providing extra related to mobile environment.  Allows efficient transfer of data over bandwidth limited air interface of mobile n/w via a gateway and can be useful to deliver info directly to handsets.  Additional tags which include symbols for joy, kisses, love, encircled numbers, telephone etc.

6 B.E Computer Seminar 1.3.1 Requirements  To Realise the WWW browsing for small deviecs a Browser is required to surf the net. to surf the net.  Browser software requires a small memory of 150-200kbytes for working data and 150-200 kbytes for the program code.  Minimum CPU requirements are about 1-2 MIPS

7 B.E Computer Seminar 1.3.2 Benefits of cHTML  Allows small information devices to connect to WWW  Keeping the advantages of HTML, it solves the problems for small devices.  HTML authoring tools can be applied to cHTML specification.  Client specific web services can be achieved by the server doing content filter for cHTML.

8 B.E Computer Seminar 2.) Technical Objective 2.) Technical Objective  To provide personal internet web & mail service on digital cellular phone network- PDC ( Personal Digital Cellular ). Packet mode to enable charges only on the amount of data downloaded. Packet mode to enable charges only on the amount of data downloaded. Mail : Push mail delivery to make the phone attractive.
