2 1. Boycott - Refusal to buy or distribute goods.

3 2. Brown Vs. Board of Education - Court case that said separate but equal facilities was illegal. (Segregation = Illegal)

4 3. Civil Rights - The rights guaranteed to US citizens by laws and the constitution.

5 4. Discrimination -the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or gender

6 5. Equality - All citizens receive the same status, rights, and opportunities regardless race, gender, or age, etc…

7 6. Freedom Rides - An effort made to desegregate all public transportation across the United States.

8 7. “Hippies” -a usually young person who rejects established social customs (such as by dressing in an unusual way or living in a commune) and who opposes violence and war; especially : a young person of this kind in the 1960s and 1970s

9 8. Jim Crow Laws - Laws that enforced segregation after the Civil War through the 1970s.

10 9. Little Rock Nine - 9 students who were one of the first to attempt to desegregate schools.

11 10. Malcolm X - A civil rights activist that advocated for African American rights through racist tactics and violence.

12 11. March on Washington - Peaceful march led by Martin Luther King Jr. for jobs and civil rights. Also the location of the “I Have a Dream” Speech.

13 12. Martin Luther King Jr. -A civil rights activist that advocated for African American rights through peaceful protest and motivational speeches.

14 13. Montgomery Bus Boycotts - After Rosa Parks is arrested, African Americans in Montgomery, Alabama refuse to use public buses.

15 14. Plessy VS. Ferguson - Court case that decided that separate but equal was legal. (Segregation = Legal)

16 15. Protests - A series of violent or nonviolent means to advocate for a cause.

17 16. Riot - A violent disturbance of peace by a crowd.

18 17. Rosa Parks - A civil rights martyr who refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white man.

19 18. Segregation - The separation or isolation of classes, races, genders, etc…

20 19. Vietnam War - An elongated conflict fought between Communist Northern Vietnam and Democratic (US-Backed) Southern Vietnam.

21 20. Woolworth’s Protest - The conclusion of the Greensboro Sit-Ins where 4 African American college students refused to leave until they were served lunch at Woolworth’s Department Store.
