Ending Relationships in Healthy Ways

Although destructive elements can be warning signs in a relationship, they do not necessarily mean a relationship should end. However, it’s important to identify warning signs and to know when and how to end a relationship when necessary. It’s also important to be able to recover in a healthy way when a relationship ends.

Turn to “Ending Relationships” on page 8. We will read through this information aloud. After each section is read we will discuss the key points.

Brainstorm… What are some places that we can go for help with ending an abusive relationship?

Turn to “Should It End?” on page 10. You will be in groups of 3 and I will assign each group 1 case study. Complete the activity sheet in your groups and be prepared to share your answers with the class.

Turn to “How Does it End?” on page 13. Stay in your groups and write a roleplay script that ends the relationship in a healthy way. Be prepared to present your roleplays.

What guidelines were used to end the relationship?

Take home your “Parent Interview: Breaking Up Is Hard to Do” worksheet. Take this sheet home and talk with your parent about ending relationships.
