9 Homework According to the Appoquinimink District Homework policy, the length of homework for a fifth grader should be between one to three assignments taking approximately 45 minutes depending on the child. Homework Spelling Reading Math Other assignments as needed It’s okay to assist your child with homework but the homework is his or her responsibility. Incomplete or unfinished homework will have to be completed at recess and at home. They will only be given 10 minutes at recess to complete it. Late work will be noted in the Friday folder. Homework can be checked on website: www.olivebloss.org

12 RtI—Response To Intervention RTI is the practice of providing high-quality instruction and intervention matched to student’s needs and monitoring progress frequently to make decisions about changes in instructional strategies. Students that qualify to be part of a small RTI group must meet with their classroom teacher for 30 minutes 3 times a week. While in small group with the teacher, students will be working on skills specific to their need. Students not working with the teacher will be working on activities that foster critical thinking.

14 Reporting Student Progress Agendas Report cards (3 times a year) Parent-Teacher conferences will be held in November and February. Weekly Progress Reports (Friday Folders) Provides information on classroom citizenship Academic difficulties will be noted as needed Every six weeks, an academic update will be provided

15 Delaware Comprehensive Assessment System Taken for Reading and Math three times a year to provide data on student achievement Students will also be taking an end of year Science assessment Tests are computerized and will provide timely data

17 SSS-School Success Skills SSS is based on National & State Standards for School Counselors and activities will be in three areas: personal/social, career & academic. Through literature, video, use of computers, individual and group work students will learn about topics such as feelings, friendship, decision making, goal setting, problem solving & bullying.
