4 The Increase in Acid Rain over Europe This was the acid rain problem in 1960 This was the acid rain problem in 1980 Imagine what it is like now!

5 What is Acid Rain? NATURAL Causes: CARBON DIOXIDE (CO 2 ) in the atmosphere. HUMAN Causes: Emissions of SULPHUR DIOXIDE (SO 2 ) and NITROUS OXIDES (NO x ) from cars and factories. Acid rain is in fact rain which has been turned acidic (acid is a pH of 6.0 or below) when water in clouds chemically reacts with natural CO 2 or human pollution.

6 What does acid rain harm natural environments? ANIMALS SOIL LAKES, RIVERS and OTHER WATER BODIES TREES and OTHER VEGETATION
