1 Novel Study Learning Goal: to demonstrate your understanding of a novel’s characters, issues and themes, and plot and to make connections between the novel and your own personal experience.

2 Today’s Reading Task: Novel study Read the assigned novel for twenty minutes than provide the following information about the novel: 1.Where does the story take place? 2.When does the story take place? 3.Who are the main characters? 4.From whose point of view is the story written? 5.Describe the main character in two or three adjectives. 6.What is the main conflict? 7.What type of conflict is it? (it may be one and it may be all four kinds) Success Criteria analysed texts in terms of the information, ideas, issues, or themes with a high degree of success identified several different elements and explained their meaning. made and explained inferences supporting your explanations with stated and implied ideas from the text. extended understanding of the text by making connections between the ideas in them and personal knowledge, experience, and insights; other texts; and the world around you.

If it isn’t a person, then what is the main character fighting against? 9. Which character do you like the most? Why? 10. Which character do you like least? Why? 11. Pick a moment in the story that stands out. Why did it stand out? Was it an important part in the story? Did it reveal something about a character? 12. What are some of the themes of the book?
