3 ENERGY STAR BACKGROUND  Launched in 1992 for computers  Grown to products across 35+ categories – 1995 - new homes – 1999 - efficient buildings – 2003 - updated MARK  Sold more than 2 billion products  Prevented greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 30 million vehicles AfterBefore

5 ENERGY STAR in your Home  When something needs to be replaced check out www.energystar.govwww.energystar.gov  Check for the item(s) to see if they a lable from ENERGY STAR.  Always remember bigger means it will likely use more energy, but in some cases like TV the technology uses different power levels for the same size.

6 ENERGY STAR Tax Credits  You may qualify for up to $500 in federal tax credits by purchasing select ENERGY STAR labeled products. The level of $$$ is posted on the web site, for Central Air Conditioning is it is a SEER 15 level of performance.  Home builders can still get a $2000 tax credit.  Even water heaters can get tax credits, if they meet DOE standards in energy performance, but we haven’t officially rated water heaters with ENERGY STAR. (But maybe in the near future they will finish!)

7 ENERGY STAR saves money  Remember you have two parts to that utility. What in the background running all the time and then that big HVAC system.  Background can be lower every time you buy ENERGY STAR products, they have many levels of efficiency, but the lowest levels are at 10 to 30 percent lower energy consumption  The Central A/C, Furnace, room A/C bill part can easily be cut 30 percent if not 60 percent if the system is more than 12 years old.

10 ENERGY STAR ADVANCED LIGHTING PACKAGE (ALP) KEY MARKETING MESSAGE #1: Less Time Climbing Step-stools: Advanced technology bulbs in ENERGY STAR qualified fixtures need to be changed once every seven years on average compared to an annual ladder-climb for incandescent bulbs.

11 What is ENERGY STAR up to   We are adding more ENERGY STAR Homes and Businesses in Texas every year by working with more utilities!   ENERGY STAR Tax Free Day!   EE Building Codes & Natural Disaster Resistant Construction. Examples: Cities of Denton and Frisco. This helps HUD!!!   We are developing a better utility grid so we will have more renewable energy and clean energy to use! Like 18,000 MW!
