4 UMCOR's mission is to alleviate human suffering. UMCOR honors cultural differences All people have God-given dignity and worth. UMCOR always works with partners—usually in local settings. UMCOR is a good steward of our gifts and grants UMCOR avoids tying the promise of its relief and development activity to any religious or political viewpoint. UMCOR welcomes the good efforts of countless individuals and churches who support us through gifts and prayers and service.

5 The Advance The program was created in 1952 as a way to allow Methodists and later, United Methodists, as well as other interested individuals to contribute to specific programs, missionaries, and ministries. Advance giving is often called "second-mile giving" because it goes beyond the "first mile" of contributing to apportionments and World Service Funds. The Advance is an official United Methodist program that gives you the opportunity to give to the ministry of your choice.

6 HOPE Fund In the face of some of this world's harshest realities, the people are responding with hope. By Annual Conference 2008, the almost 200,000 United Methodist in this region will raise $1 million to rebuild Mississippi Gulf churches damaged by Hurricane Katrina, combat the scourage of AIDs now sweeping the globe and fortify our partnership with those in dire need in Zimbabwe

7 Malaria kills more than a million people per year; 90 percent of those who die are African children. Every 30 seconds in Africa a child dies of malaria. Malaria incapacitates people, keeping countries poor. In addition to the health burden, malaria illness and death cost Africa about $12 billion per year.

10 Purchase sewing machines so women can start their own businesses.

11 Helping to purchase seeds and plants such as the Moringa Tree. Moringa leaves could practically wipe out malnutrition on our planet. Experts agree that the long- term solution to malnutrition is the use of foods rich in the essential nutrients often lacking in people's diets. Modern scientific research is proving that Moringa leaves are one of the richest sources of such nutrients. Even small amounts of the leaves could protect thousands of people from suffering and death.nutrients People in several countries have found that Moringa leaves are quite acceptable to taste, especially when added to common foods.added to common foods

12 Teach and provide new technology to generate energy by using Solar Power

13 Work with Children, taking school supplies and helping build schools

14 Build New Classrooms for Students in UM Secondary School in Jalingo

15 Rural Health Program, providing Medicines and equipment for Health Clinics as well as Volunteers who come to teach and share their skills.

18 Worship together and fellowship. Take time to listen and hear the needs and concerns of those we go to help.
