3. A. In the 330’s, Roman Emperor Constantine divided the Roman Empire into Eastern and Western portions. The West fell in 476. But the East continued on for 1,000 years as The Byzantine Empire.

4. A. Byzantine Empire controlled territory in Eastern Europe, North Africa and parts of the Middle East (present day Greece, the Balkans, Turkey, Egypt and Syria). B. Had many of the same geographical advantages as the Roman Empire. What were some of them?
