2 SPRING INTO SUMMER Spring… spring into summer
The rains flow into sunshine The flowers peek then up they pop and colors bloom School comes to a close and beaches open Raincoats and galoshes turn into sun hats and flip flops FREE VERSE POEM – does not follow any particular structure. 1.

3 flowers flowers grow and bloom
beautiful colors so vivid fragrant scents fill the air drops of rain and rays of sun from the sky they fall down gardens filled with foliage make things just right petals and stems flowers CONCRETE POEM (SHAPE POEM) – takes the shape of what is being described. 2.

4 Snowflakes Snowflakes twirl and whirl From the sky they float and flip
HAIKU – A Japanese poem that contains 3 lines, syllables or 17 syllables total. Usually written in present tense and focuses on nature. From the sky they float and flip Each one different and unique 3.

5 SEASONS Spring comes only once a year Summer soon will arrive
The birds sing loudly for all to hear. Summer soon will arrive The sun shines down and lovely flowers thrive. Autumn brings the changing of the leaves Beautiful colors falling from the trees. Winter blows in with cold winds abound. Snow piling up on the frozen ground. RHYMING POEM – contains rhymes in pattern form. 4.

6 Falling into Fall Pumpkins glow orange and yellow sitting on porches
Scarecrows standing straight and tall along fences Apples red and round falling from trees into bushel baskets Children dressing up in scary costumes knocking on doors Black cats hunch their backs hiding in bushes Free Choice – create any poem that you choose! 5.

7 About the Author Ms. Conrad teaches first grade at Abraham Lincoln School. She loves writing poems for her fabulous first grade friends and spending time with her wonderful family. Ms. Conrad enjoys watching the seasons change. She loves watching the flowers bloom in spring, running outside in summer, crunching the leaves beneath her feet in fall, and watching the snow glisten in the moonlight in winter.
