11 The importance of SC in EOL Residents and families need to prepare and cope with the stresses of EOL. (Books) Staff need to deal with their own fear of death and immortality before they can be effective in EOL Staff need to really take time to listen to the residents and families Staff need support from SW and Chaplains

12 Staff need to be able to recognize spiritual distress Staff need to be creative when families need to arrange a wedding, celebration etc. Staff need a list of Religious/Spiritual Leaders who will come in to support Residents

13 Spiritual Issues in Faith-based Setting with diverse staff/res. Develop a denomination list to show respect for all religions Be aware of staff and their religious affiliation so you can link them with res. Provide religious literature for residence Encourage other religious leaders to visit Respect all cultures and religions. It is not our role to judge, build relationships

14 Remember that people are seeking for the truth, meaning and purpose in life The Holy Spirit is the one who convicts as we live out our faith Be prayerfully prepared to give a reason for the hope that is within you Let the fruit of the Holy Spirit flow from you
