Admission is highly competitive It is a good idea to have a backup plan. Many students will complete an Undergraduate degree at SIUE if they are not admitted to Pharmacy. Many students will consider an alternate Pharmacy school.

School of Pharmacy Class of 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013 Total Admitted Illinois Southern Central Chicago Area Other 2009 82 76 53 15 8 6 2010 80 66 42 14 10 14 2011 82 72 40 24 8 10 2012 82 71 32 24 15 11 2013 83 79 46 29 4

Residence Status Strong preference is given to residents of Illinois during the admissions process. The Dean may admit exceptional non-resident applicants to the pharmacy program as determined by academic records, personal and professional characteristics, and upon recommendation of the Admissions Committee.

Set your GPA goals high. It is important to set a specific GPA target each semester. It is important to use all campus resources that support your learning and education. Various departments provide free tutorial assistance. Study groups can assist in the learning of instructional material.

Goal Setting Considerations Completion of the pre ‑ pharmacy curriculum does not guarantee admission to the SIUE School of Pharmacy. Completion of the pre-pharmacy curriculum over a 2-year period is only possible for students who do not need preparatory course work in mathematics and/or chemistry.

Goal Setting Consideration II All courses listed in the pre-pharmacy curriculum subject listing must be completed with a minimum grade of “C.” In order to be considered for admission to the professional program, the minimum cumulative, pre-pharmacy, and pre-pharmacy science and mathematics grade point averages are 2.75. Attaining these minimums does not guarantee consideration, and specific minimums may be modified depending on the size of the applicant pool.

Beginning with the fall 2012 application cycle (applications submitted in 2011 for the fall of 2012) students will be required to have completed all pre-pharmacy courses in the spring term proceeding the intended start date. For example, students applying to enter the SOP in the fall of 2012 must complete all pre-pharmacy courses in the spring of 2012.

Goal Setting Consideration III Beginning with the fall 2012 application cycle (applications submitted in 2011 for the fall of 2012) students who have a total of five or more repeated courses within the pre- pharmacy curriculum will not be considered for admission to the program.

Know How to Calculate your GPA To calculate your grade point average, use the four-point grading scale: A, A+, A- = 4 points B+, B, B - = 3 points C,C+,C - = 2 points D,D+,D - = 1 points F, UW, WF = 0 points 1. Multiply the number of hours you earned in each course by the number of points for each grade (this will equal your quality points). 2. Total the number of quality points. 3. Total the number of hours. 4. Divide the total number of quality points by the total number of hours. This procedure works if a course grade is not repeated. Your Academic Adviser can provide information on GPA calculation, if needed.
