Provide facilities outside of the school day, e.g. breakfast clubs, after-school clubs and holiday clubs. This helps parents who work and provides children with activities to help their health and learning Include safe play areas for children of all ages, including teenagers. Make sure there is a range of facilities so everyone is included Have different-sized homes so that people don’t have to leave the area if they want a house with more, or fewer, bedrooms Using reclaimed materials helps to reduce the impact on the environment. Timber is a sustainable building material Planting wildflowers helps to increase the number of butterflies and bees, which helps improve biodiversity. Rainwater can be used to create ponds, which provide a valuable ecosystem

Provide facilities to encourage an active lifestyle, e.g. places to play, a park gym. Provide support to help improve life, e.g. quit-smoking groups Community-owned and run shops help keep important services open. Volunteers help a paid manager to run the shop and can get help from social charities to help run them. This provides an important service for those who can’t drive It is important that people in the community meet and discuss issues in the area. Community centres are also a place where different groups of people can be supported, e.g. toddler groups, activities for the elderly and youth clubs Shared places of worship bring together people from different backgrounds and helps understanding Public transport helps to provide access to jobs and services. Providing cycle hire and car-share schemes also helps to reduce the impact of traffic on the environment and makes transport more affordable for more people
