2 Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001 The Care Commission became operational in April 2002 It has overall responsibility for registration and inspection of care services in Scotland -Early Education and Childcare, Care Homes and Residential Schools

3 The Care Commission Will register and inspect all services according to national care standards issued by Scottish Ministers Will have its HQ in Dundee with regional offices across the country Will assess those who wish to provide registered services Will inspect the services to ensure that they are meeting standards and regulations

4 The Care Commission Aim To ensure improvement in the quality of care services in Scotland Purpose To put in place a new, unified and effective system of regulation which puts the safety and wellbeing of users at its heart

5 Care Standards Starting point-review carried out by Scottish Executive Account taken of quality assurance schemes operated by: Scottish Childminders Association, Scottish Pre- School Play Association, Scottish Independent Nurseries Association and the Scottish Out of School Care Network

7 Principles… Dignity be treated with dignity and respect at all times; and enjoy a full range of social relationships Privacy have your privacy and property respected:and be free from unnecessary intrusion

8 Pre-School Education Where centres are funded for pre-school education, the quality indicators of The Child at the Centre and The Curriculum Framework for Children 3 - 5 will help to describe national expectations. They will provide advice about the curriculum, children’s progress, assessment, support for learning and quality assurance.

9 Childcare up to 16 years nursery classes creches childminders after school clubs playgroups Any public, private and voluntary sector which provides services for over two hours per day and for six or more days per year
