Danielle Johnson Pine Mountain Middle School

Find A Cure, by Gavin Arid and Sammy Mallard, calk on brick wall, 2014

1.What can you learn from the title of the artwork? What I learned from the title of the artwork is that we need to find a cure for cancer. Cancer is very dangerous and deadly. We have to find a cure before it is to late. 2.What subjects in the artwork can your recognize? One subject in the artwork I found was the breast cancer sign. I also noticed the huge size of the artwork. the breast caner sign spells the word “a”. 3.Looking at the elements of art what do you see? The pink is contrasted between fin cure and the breast cancer sign. The dull, brown brick wall makes the pink stand out more. I also so see the shape, spacing, and form. 4. What media (materials used to make the art) and techniques (methods to make the art) did the artist use? The artists used calk on the brick. They used a contrast in the pink to make the breast cancer sign stand out more. The size and bolded letters shows that we really need to find a cure because it very important.

1.Is there symbolism in the artwork? What do you think it means? Yes. I think it means how much we need to find a cure for breast cancer. Also, just breast cancer but all the different kinds of cancer’s. We can’t let people keep on ding because of cancer. We have to make a stand. 2.What feeling do you think the artist wanted to give the viewer when looking at the work? They wanted people to feel like we haven’t try quite enough to stop breast cancer. People should find a cure and soon. If we don’t find a cure more people will die of breast cancer each day. 3.Does the work remind you of other things you have experienced? Yes, because my aunt had breast cancer and She survived. That is why people should find a cure. My aunt could have died but she didn’t. If we find a cure the more people that will survive. 4.How does the work relate to other ideas or events in the world and/or in your other classes? It relates to the breast cancer. So, does the pink in the words. The art also relates to a world crisis.

1.What parts of the work make you feel it is a success or failure? A successful part was to get their word across about breast cancer. There was no failure to me. Another successful part was the color and the contrast in the pink. Also the idea of the artwork. 2.What criteria (think of the style of the work) can you list to help others judge this work? You should look at the contrast in the colors. Also, the size witch shows you how important the topic is. Anther way is to see the style. 3.How unique is the work? Why do you feel this work is or isn’t unique? The artwork is very unique. I have never seen an artwork like this one. The idea is so unique to me. It really speaks to me. 4.What are some improvements you feel the artist could have made to the work? They could have darkened the letter more to make the contrast greater. The letters could have been a little more curved. They also could have used more images. Other than that the art is great.
