2 T HE T ESTS PSAT (Referred to as the Pre-SAT) SAT (Used to be known as the Scholastic Assessment Test) PLAN TEST (Referred to as the Pre-ACT) ACT (Formerly known as the American College Test) SAT II (Also known as the Subject Tests ) AP TESTS (Taken in conjunction with Advanced Placement classes)

Practice for the SAT Enter the National Merit Scholarship Corp. competitions for recognition & scholarship Assess your skills in critical reading, math reasoning, and writing Get specific suggestions on how to improve your skills. ( Access to My College Quickstart ) Compare your academic skills with those of other college-bound students

4 W HY T AKE THE PSAT? Ask colleges to send you information about their school Get information about college majors and careers Available to High School Juniors and Sophomores Administered only in October Administered at local high schools Cost: $17.00 October 15 @ CKHS

5 T HE SAT R EASONING T EST Divided into 3 Sections: Critical Reading- 70 minutes testing time scored on scale of 200-800 points (*515/573) Math- 70 minutes testing time scored on scale of 200-800 points (*523/579) Writing- 60 minutes testing time (includes a 25 minute essay) scored on scale of 200- 800 points (*499/550) *Wa. State average scores/CKHS average scores for 2014

6 T HE SAT R EASONING T EST Register online: www.collegeboard.org Given at National test centers including: Olympic College Bremerton & Olympic College Poulsbo Cost: $52.50 (See counselor for fee waivers) Preparation- Reading, Rigorous classes, PSAT, SAT Preparation Guide, Books, Computer CD’s, Online Resources, Prep Classes

7 Divided into 4 Sections plus optional writing section: English- 45 minutes testing time scored on a scale of 1-36 Math- 60 minutes testing time scored on a scale of 1-36 Reading- 35 minutes testing time scored on a scale of 1-36 Science- 35 minutes testing time scored on a scale of 1-36

8 Optional Writing Test- 30 minutes writing time scored on a scale of 1-36 (required by most larger universities including UW & WSU) *ACT scores are reported as a composite or average of the 4 sections plus the writing score. (State/CK ave. 23.4/27.3)

9 Register online: www.actstudent.org or with paper application available in counseling centers Given at national test centers including locally at Olympic College Bremerton Cost: $54.50 including writing test. (See counselor for fee waiver) Preparation: Resources similar to SAT

10 T HE SAT II’ S Subject tests from a variety of academic disciplines including: English, math, science, social sciences, & world lang. Required by some colleges and universities (none in Washington) Some UCal programs, Ivy League, other private schools Cost: $26.00 basic fee plus $16.00 for each subject test Given at national test centers (OC)

11 A DMISSION T ESTING T IMELINE 10 th GradePSAT in the Fall 11 th GradePSAT in the Fall SAT & ACT in the Spring SATII (If needed) 12 th GradeRepeat at least 1 of either the SAT or ACT SAT II (If needed)
