4 祝日 (Shukujitsu: Holiday) Many national holidays! Golden Week: 3 days off in the same week at the beginning of May Caution! ◦ Gunma Day: May not be a day off ◦ School Breaks: Students’ break ≠ teachers’ break

5 病休 (Byouky: Sick Leave) 病休 (Byouky ū : Sick Leave) Entitled to it! ◦ Check your contract for details Maximum is 20 consecutive days Check the method to take sick leave at your school Medical documentation ◦ May be required if you take several days off

6 病休 (Byouky: Sick Leave) 病休 (Byouky ū : Sick Leave) Ask specifically for it ◦ May assume nenkyu (paid leave) otherwise ◦ If unresolvable problems arise, contact Jaime Call school if you can’t make it Don’t abuse it! ◦ Teachers may visit you if you are sick

7 代休 (Daiky ū : Compensatory Leave) Compensates time spent at work outside of usual work hours ◦ Sports day, weekend classes, etc. Specific day or at teacher’s discretion Usually taken within a week of event ◦ Check with JTE if you’re choosing a day

8 特休 (Tokky ū : Special Leave) Very limited! Can be paid or unpaid ◦ Check your contract! Examples: ◦ Bereavement leave, marital leave, natural disaster leave, commuter transport system failure leave, pre-natal leave, post-natal leave, nursing time, menstrual leave, etc.
