Q: What is safety and protection? A: safe-ty: noun The state of being safe; freedom from occurrence or risk of injury, danger, or loss pro-tec-tion: noun the act of protecting or the state of being protected; preservation from injury or harm. Q:Why is safety and protection important? A: Safety and protection are important because you cannot live without safety. Children can grow up and help the world be a better place. Therefore, children can contribute productively to society.

Global Safety Agencies Global safety and protection agencies: CIA – Central Intelligence Agency in the USA MI5 – UK National Security Intelligence Agency Global safety organizations: UNICEF –International Organization aimed at protecting children. International Family Abductions Prevention

National Safety Agencies National safety agencies: FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigations Military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard) Police/SWAT - Special Weapons and Tactics National Safety Standards – Laws in place to keep us safe US Product Safety Commission- aims to ensure toys, beds, clothing, gear is safe for children Child Safety Protection Act – aims to make people aware of chocking hazards from toys Child Abuse Laws Amber Alerts: alerts for missing children

School Safety Safety Officers in school are: Teacher Vice Principal Principal Physical Safety measures In school: Cameras on the perimeter of the building Visitors Check-in at the Front Office Visitor badges Fence around the school yard Wood chips on playground instead of concrete Crash pads in gymnasium

Personal Safety Here are some personal safety tips for you: Look both ways before you cross the street Wear a life jacket when near deep water Wear a helmet and pads when riding a bike, a scooter, a skateboard, or a rip stick Wear a seatbelt in the car to protect yourself from harm

Cyber Safety Put a computer in a place where it can be monitored by an adult like the living room Do NOT have a child take a computer in his/her bedroom Children should stay away from blogs with communication, comments, and pictures
