5 Time to write Using the paper I give you, write a one page paper on the Storm. You can include: Warnings and news coverage of the storm before it hit Preparation on the Island before the storm Impact of the storm on the Island What did people experience during the storm What did the city do to prevent such destruction in the future

6 Closure If you finish writing your paper with time left in class, start reading on page 386 As you leave, turn in the Galveston hurricane questions sheet and the Galveston hurricane paper you just wrote.

Farmers and rural citizens felt their concerns were not being addressed Railroads had a large amount of power and influence Oil industry was growing in power and influence Women could not vote Spanish speaking people felt they were not having their rights protected African Americans were being discriminated against Feeling that men who drank too much alcohol neglected their families
