3 What is Camp Surf? Outdoor educational field trip with a program designed to: Build understanding of ecological principles. Build relationships between individuals and the natural world. Enhance understanding of the inquiry process; the interrelationships between oceans, tides, and land with both aquatic and terrestrial life. Promote environmental stewardship. Empower students to make informed decisions regarding our world.

4 Camp Surf Curriculum Teaches
Aligned with the 6th Grade AZ State Science Standards and math statistics Students to develop perceptions, sensitivities, and awareness of the natural environment. Explore and construct knowledge about scientific concepts. Understand interrelationships of plants and animals, their communities, special needs, and that biodiversity is core to the “web of life”.

5 Camp Surf Curriculum Choices
Beach Bound – Scientific process is used to learn about the water and beach cycles Jetty Rocks- Explore a rock jetty to discover specialized adaptations of plants and animals to survive in the harsh intertidal environment. Estuary Exploration-Learn about tides, zones, and visit the largest coastal estuary in Southern California. Climbing Tower- Set a personal goal, and climb a traditional tower with helmet, harness, and belay for safety. CSI-Critter skull investigation Measure, estimate, and make predictions about animals by observing and comparing skulls. Group Games - Activities and challenges to build group communication, cooperation, and trust. Kelp Connections - Explore kelp, learn about a kelp forest, and discover how ocean animals and humans use kelp every day!

7 Why Camp Surf? Camp Surf provides hands- on experiences
Addresses issues with our environment Provides our students with those tools to help prevent and possibly solve those problems. Allows for 6th graders to become knowledgeable thinkers, Creates a sense of empowerment needed for our environmental futures. Our students are the future; let’s make it happen!

8 Student Participation
All students are invited to attend, no student will be turned away for cost. Cost per student is $280. Includes Everything for 3 days: Bus, Camp, Food, T-shirt, snacks Students must read and follow all Rules and Expectations of Paseo Hills and Camp Surf

9 FUNDRAISING Fall Fundraiser
Papa Murphy’s- 9 out of $10.00 goes to the student Car Wash? Yogurtini? Winter Fundraiser Sonic Cards- $5 dollars per card. All goes to student McDonalds? Harkins?

10 Chaperone Participation
Chaperones will be at 8 students: 1 adult Cost $200 per chaperone Must go though District Volunteer Training Fingerprint Clearance through Department of Public Safety Be approved here at Paseo Hills by front office Please contact Ms. McNamara after you have your district volunteer training completed & partial payment We need at least 6 male adult chaperones & 2 female chaperones. We would like to take as many as possible, but it is a first come first serve process at this point.

11 How do we make Camp Surf happen for all our students?
What can your student do: Participate in Fundraising Save any type of allowance money or gift money (It’s always an option!) Encourage grandparents, aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends to submit Tax Credit Donations

12 How do we make Camp Surf happen for our student?
What You Can Do: All Arizona State Tax Payer Donate TAX CREDIT DOLLARS! Automatic Refund when you file your taxes Single: $200, Joint: $400 Money gets credited to your student District Tax form mailed home

Forms Available online & here at school School: Paseo Hills Event: Camp Surf Up to $200 for single filing Up to $400 for joint filing Can be used for both 2014 & 2015 Tax years Multiple payments can be used- adds up over the course of the year. I will send home a new form Example- $20.00 every two weeks, $50.00 a month
