1 Today’s Goal: Identify the course goals and their significance to you Today is: Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015 1.Welcome to Ms. Whitaker’s Junior English class! Unfortunately, Ms. Whitaker is in the gym leading freshman orientation, but she’s excited to meet you all tomorrow! 2.Get out a piece of loose leaf paper and write Ms. Whitaker a ¾ page letter introducing yourself, stating what you are most looking forward to in your Junior year (not just English), and any interesting information you think she should know about you. Today’s Goal: Get to know your classmates Due today: None! Fun fact of the day: You have to count all the way to one thousand before the letter “a” is used in spelling a number. Out of Class: Finish Partner Paragraph for tomorrow’s partner presentation

2 Today’s Goal: Identify the course goals and their significance to you Today is: THURsday, Aug. 13, 2015 1.Please come in, sit wherever, and grab a notecard on your table. 2.Write your whole name at the top and answer the following questions below it: What is your favorite place you have been on vacation or your favorite place you’d like to go? If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items could you not live without? If you could see anyone in concert, who would it be? Today’s Goal: Get to know Ms. Whitaker’s classroom expectations and about those in the class. Due today: Partner paragraph Fun fact of the day: Newborn infants have 300 bones. Out of Class: Get syllabus signed by Monday!

3 Today’s Goal: Identify the course goals and their significance to you Today is: Friday, Aug. 14, 2015 1.Please come in and sit in the seat you sat in at the end of class yesterday by your interview partner. Clear your desk of everything; we’ll begin our the activity once the bell rings. Today’s Goal: Get to know your classmates Due today: NONE! Fun fact of the day: Seals have been known to swim for as long as 8 months, and as far as 6,000 miles, without touching land. Out of Class: Remember to get your syllabus signed – Have a great weekend!

4 Cubing Activity In your groups, take turns rolling the dice. Whatever number it lands on, answer the question it corresponds to below. Keep going around the circle rolling until your time is up. If you roll the same number, roll again. 1. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why? 2. If I gave you $10,000, what would you spend it on? Why? 3. If you could live in any period of history, when would it be? Why? 4. If you could do your dream job 10 years from now, what would it be? Why? 5. If money and time was no object, what would you be doing right now? Why? 6. If you were sent to live on a space station for three months and only allowed to bring three personal items with you, what would they be? Why?
