2. What Is Mock Trial??  Nationwide competition run by the Constitutional Rights Foundation  Receive a “Mock” case  try the case in front of a County Judge  based on their ability to present arguments and defend their case

3. Clark’s Mock Trial Team  divided into Prosecution and Defense Teams  compete each November at the Los Angeles Courthouse  each member gets a role  each role has an alternate  Roles-  Courtroom journalist  Artist  Clerk  Bailiff  Witness  Lawyer

4. What It Takes...  Interest in learning about the Judiciary Branch  Public speaking and/or role playing abilities  Dedication- Enrichment meetings every Tuesday and Friday Weekend meetings at Panera Bread or Mrs. O’Gara’s house

5. What You Gain  first hand courtroom experience  find out what lawyers actually do  try out something new  meet students from different schools  opportunity to participate in this AMAZING experience

6. How To Join  Take an application  Fill it out  Return it on the day of your tryout  Listen to the bulletin for announcements regarding tryouts in the 2015-2016 school year

7. Tryouts  Sign up for a tryout date and time with Mrs. O’Gara  Watch for bulletin notices regarding any changes  Show up to Mrs. O’Gara’s room (5304) for your “audition”  Choose if you want to be a witness or a lawyer  If you choose to try out for a lawyer position, you must try out for both a witness and a lawyer  Witnesses do not need to try out for a lawyer position

8. Tryouts To try out for witness:  Use the handout/information sheet to choose a “character”  Go to Mrs. O’Gara’s web page on clarkmagnet.net and scroll down to “Mock Trial Links” on the left tabs  Search for your character of choice  Read and learn the information in the witness testimony  Come to your tryout and be prepared to answer questions about your testimony

9. Tryouts To try out for lawyer:  You must try out for a witness role in addition to trying out for the lawyer position  Pick your witness and follow all witness instructions  For the lawyer part of the tryout, you will be assigned a topic to debate  Find out if you are “pro” or “con” for your argument  Prepare a 1 minute argument about your side of the topic  Be ready to conduct a rebuttal for an additional minute on that topic
