C&I 212 Diverse Field Experience = 20 hoursDiverse Field Experience There are 20 clinical hours required in C&I 212 that will allow the teacher candidate to meet a portion of the 50 diversity hours requirement.

An assortment of activities are available to help you met this requirement “The Diverse Field Experience hours will be a combination of activities which will include scheduled observations in approved settings, viewing selected videos and participating in bus trips” = 5

Goals for C & I 212 Field Experiences: Field Experiences are designed to introduce pre-service teacher candidates to school settings and issues in education. Through direct contact with students, teachers, administrators, and school personnel, pre- service teacher candidates will have the opportunity to:

Goals for C & I 212 Field Experiences: Examine present structure, organization, and effectiveness of secondary schools; Identify terms and issues related to students with special needs, including legal and safety issues and essential instructional accommodations; Observe multicultural concerns and critical issues related to diversity in American society and schools; Identify instructional technology and its place in schools; Observe teachers’ roles, teachers’ responsibilities, and instructional practices; Identify the relationship between standards and curriculum in today’s schools; Examine the responsibilities of teachers toward other teachers, administrators, school boards, parents, and the general public.

The teacher signup at each school is different. Read the school information on the wikispace for specific sign-up instructions at each school.

FYI: Bloomington High School asks you to choose three possible teachers to observe.

SIGN-UP & CANCELLATION POLICY Sign-up and Cancellation on the wikispaces is available up to the day of the observation for all sites Bloomington High School and the McLean County Juvenile Detention These sites will be locked the Thursday prior to the week of observation. You will not be able to sign-up or cancel at these sites during that time. DO NOT SHOW UP AT ANY SITE THAT YOU HAVE NOT PREVIOUSLY SIGNED UP FOR!

The Agencies Check course field guide for appropriate experiences Require an orientation – Access the Agency website for information – Have special requirements Require a ten week commitment Sign-up is at the Agency Level

If you choose the McLean County Juvenile Detention Center you must attend an orientation at the Center NO ORIENTATION = NO SITE VISITS

Field work at the McLean County Juvenile Detention Center will require: – Orientation – Application – Criminal Background Check – Personal notification of when you can begin site visits

Appropriate SCHOOL ETIQUITE is expected! Improper behavior at a school site is not tolerated. School calls reporting improper behavior will result in the teacher candidate being banned from that school and a Disposition Concern will be written.

Professional Behavior Be on time or early (30 minutes before first school visit) Be prepared – know where you are going and what to do when you get there Present yourself as if you were interviewing for a job – you might be! *Refer to yourself as Mr. or Ms. when speaking to high school students You represent ISU - Make us proud!

Documenting your Clinical Experience Document your clinical experience(s) by completing a Blue Documentation form for each activity = 5

Document your 20 hours of field experience Fill out a Blue Documentation form for each separate field experience site/type if applicable: 1 = school; 1= video; 1= bus trip

BUS TRIPS MUST BE VERIFIED! You will document that you went on a bus trip by filling out a blue doc form in your course. A BUS TRIP VERIFICATION FORM must be turned in to your instructor. Instructors will be provided with a bus trip log to verify attendance. Signing up for a bus trip does NOT equate to actual attendance. If you drive yourself to a site you must have a signed self-placement form to accompany your blue doc form.

BUS TRIP VERIFICATION FORM This form will be given to you the morning of the bus trip. Fill it out and turn it in to your instructor. You will not be allowed to claim bus trip hours unless your instructor has this form. The form cannot be replaced. DO NOT LOSE!
