2  What does the Brain and CNS do?  Anatomy of the Nervous System  If you think of the brain as a central computer that controls all bodily functions, then the nervous system is like a network that relays messages back and forth from the brain to different parts of the body. It does this via the spinal cord, which runs from the brain down through the back and contains threadlike nerves that branch out to every organ and body part.

4  Alcohol is a depressant  A substance that inhibits or slows down the central nervous system (CNS). ▪ CNS = the brain and spinal cord  Alcohol affects thinking, judgment and reasoning abilities.

5  The stomach is a muscular organ located on the left side of the upper abdomen. The stomach receives food from the esophagus. As food reaches the end of the esophagus, it enters the stomach through a muscular valve called the lower esophageal sphincter.

7  Alcohol is quickly absorbed from the stomach and into the blood stream.  Prolonged drinking is related to ulcers and cancers (stomach, mouth, tongue and esophagus).

Chemical reactions occur in the cells of your body to break down the nutrients. Some of the waste is the result of these chemical reactions. Some is just stuff your body doesn't need because it already has enough. The waste has to go somewhere; this is where the kidneys come in.blood

20  Alcohol is a vasodilator, meaning it “opens up” the blood vessels, which in turn lowers blood pressure throughout the body.  Alcohol travels to the brain through the blood stream.
