Discussion with Chrsitian Pier79 – H-Compass meeting #6

Outcome of the Hackathon List of bug-fixes of the current visual-only system List of possible solutions we thought of Evaluation of the impact of the possible solutions. Experiment on a few volunteers (~10-20 people) on test route (any building) Implementation of one of the possible solutions (database-independent) Proposal of step-by-step implementation and impact evaluation at HUG.

List Visual-only ideas – Bug-fix current system ( improve coherence ) (HUG-specific) – Big map @ entrance – Small maps @ critical points Visual+common device @ entrance/critical points – Patient barcode scan -> print instructions – Select department -> print instructions – Select room -> print instructions ? (at the help desk?) Visual+personal device – Scan barcode/select department/select room -> show instructions + add photos of the itinerary (google-maps-itinerary-like) – Scan sign (door number/small map/ combination of lines) show position on map and/or show an arrow on the scanned sign Personal device only – Electromagnetic fingerprint – Lines with pattern recognizable by device

Bug fix/improve current system Green lift

Bug fix/improve current system Orange? Paint doors orange Only for doors to be used by out- patients/visitors

Bug fix/improve current system ^ Batiment A3 Add info on vertical signs that relates to the horitzontal signs (lines)

Bug fix/improve current system Use more distinguishable colors?

Big map @ entrance Goal is to “teach” visitors of the structure of the building and the color-code being used. Example:

Small map @ critical points Show closest lift, toilet, info desk, exit WC Building C Corridor A Corridor B Corridor C Building B 4 th floor info

Patient barcode scan ID Mr/mrs bla bla bla Connected to the patients database of visits. Knows which room/department the patient should go to Connected to the smart-map Knows where is such room Knows where is the machine (starting point) Cal calculate the best route (assumes out-patient/visitor) Prints best route instructions Welcome Mrs Bla You have an appointment at 12:10 in the Dermatology department B / 4 - Arve Follow the blue line Take the green lift on your right to the 4 th floor Enter the Arve corridor on your right Building FloorCorridor Room

Touchscreen + printer Connected to the smart-map Knows where is such room/department Knows where is the machine (starting point) Cal calculate the best route (assumes out-patient/visitor) Prints best route instructions Dermatology department is in: B / 4 - Arve Follow the blue line Take the green lift on your right to the 4 th floor Enter the Arve corridor on your right Building FloorCorridor Room Department Room Oncology Otorhinolaryngology Type your destination Touchscreen

Smartphone -> instructions + images App: User scans QR code at the entrance to set initial location Selects destination Gets Instructions incl.text + images Dermatology department is in: B / 4 - Arve Follow the blue line Take the green lift on your right to the 4 th floor Enter the Arve corridor on your right Building FloorCorridor Room Department Room Oncology Otorhinolaryngology Type your destination

Smartphone -> where am I, where I go Each door should have a human-understandable unique identifier. Immidiately tells you which building, floor and corridor you are in Scan door identifier to get location on map B/4-A 0010 You are here: Please scan location tag: If you had introduced a destination, show the direction to go B/4-A 0010 You are here: Please scan location tag: Follow black arrow

Smartphone -> where am I, where I go Print “compass” on the floor. Look at it through a smartphone and it will overlay an arrow to the compass image indicating direction to go Corridor A Corridor B Corridor C Building C Corridor A Corridor B Corridor C Building C

Use augmented reality, like:

Device-less view could be like: B A1 A3C DE exit Corridor Rhone Corridor Rhone Corridor Arve

And with device: B A1 A3C DE exit Corridor Rhone Corridor Rhone Corridor Arve A3 take lift to 4th floor

Lines with patterns “green line” can be made of squares, circles etc depending on the floor/corridor/building… How many different shapes can be used / recognised by: -Human -device

Evaluation Identify current problems – Survey among workers / users? Experiment with possible improvements Implement and test

Feedback from users We cannot improve the navigation in the hospital if we are not able to quantify how good/bad is the current navigation. Feedback from users should come in a continuous way, providing a control loop for the project development.

Feedback from users Voting Systems

Feedback from users Button – up approach – Users should be able to participate by giving ideas, and identifying navigation problems We could use the feedback system to rate and also to let users participate with new ideas and comments.
