2 Subjects

3 complete subject – includes all the words that tell whom or what the sentence is about
Ex. Tourists of all ages visit the harbor in Baltimore. simple subject – the main word or words in the complete subject Ex. Tourists of all ages visit the harbor in Baltimore. They enjoy the busy scene. A subject often performs the action of a sentence. Ex. Boats sail across the harbor. Turn to page 451 of your Grammar Handbook. DAY 1

4 QUESTION: What’s the difference between a complete subject and simple subject?

6 complete predicate – has all the words that tell what the subject does or is
Ex. Tourists are boarding the boat. simple predicate – the main word or words in the complete predicate Simple predicates are verbs. They name actions or states of being. Ex. Ana will take us to the aquarium. It is a popular attraction. DAY 2

7 Mechanics and Usage: Sentence Fragments

8 A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought.
A complete thought needs both a subject and a predicate. A sentence that does not have both a subject and a predicate is incomplete. It is a sentence fragment. Refer to pages 450 and 451 of your Grammar Handbook. DAY 3
